As with many of the shadowelven marriages, the marriage of Danae and Ruark ShadowFarmer was one of convenience. The potential for a Gifted child in a world where the Gifts of Gods grew thin, was great. Danae and Ruark soon found, that no matter what the chance.. the possibility of a viable Gifted child was slim.

The first three pregnacies flew off without a hitch. Wende was the firstborne, and so, would inherit her father's name of ShadowFarmer, and soon inherit the farm as well. Daskon was the secondborne, a son, and a young theologist. Draygon was the third, a massive child. After he, Danae lost three children. Then, Marrissa was born, followed three years later, by Ebon. Tyler, Danelle, Den, and finally Cryslynn soon proceeded.

But none of these were Gifted.

Nine children later, and growing old in their age, Ruark and Danae were determined to try one last time. This was their success. Krysta. The pride of the family. The youngest, and the only Gifted to be born in their section of the Shadowood.

She refused her heritage though. She refused to be married off at the Age of Bearing, and she ran away. Using her shadow-based powers, she learned how to escape pursuit, and ultimately, how to transcend the dimensional barriers. ShadowSlipping, she calls it. And that's how she came to be where she is now, marked for execution, and hunted by her own brother.
