There are nine ranks of angelic life. Seraphim, cherubim, thrones, dominions, principalities, powers, virtues, archangels and angels. There are seven Archangels named in the Old Testament, Mich�l, Gabriel, Raph�l, Uriel, Raguel, Sariel, and Jeramial. From the shadows of these seven, a being was lifted. A sadowangel, body crafted from the dark pools of non-light that lay beneath the Archangels feet. A female being with all the capabilities of a mortal, but without the knowledge. She was given the task of aiding the Grim Reaper on his missions of death; she knew no better. With these duties came a name, Shades of Black.

As she served the Reaper without question, she began to understand that killing... ruthless killing such as she was forced to do... was wrong. To wrongly end another's life before their time was wrong. She took her insight to the Elder Gods, who believed her sudden concious to be an uprising against them. Her punishment.... exile, to the mortal world.

There, in the mortal world, she came into the service of the Nightlords, three preturnatural beings with dominion over Dreams, Nightmares and Visions. They used her for her protection abilities, and began to teach her emotions. She learned to hate... what it is meant to be lonely.. and the deepest soul-shaking saddness.. She wished however, to learn more of the emotions that she saw in mortal, to understand the feelings and sensations of love...

Her yearnings brought her to the Dragonhold, where she met Heart of Fury. He taught her love... and happiness... true joy and contentment. She has accepted him as her husband, and thrown off the chains of her servitude.. all with the power of love..

Recently the seven Archangels have re-emerged into Shades's life. She has attended the Gloria and learned that love is a greater power than faith. She sang for her love for her Heart of Fury and in doing so, managed to summon down a lightning bolt that seared the spire of the sacred church.
